This is America’s biggest bike race… And it’s pretty impressive.
The Whaddup:
It happens at points around the state over eight brutal stages, the last few run through the So-Cal area. Santa Clarita, Angeles Crest Highway, Pasadena, and Thousand Oaks, the race’s terminus, will get peloton racing and the caravan of vehicles from May 16 through 18. Study up on the stages and what road to land along if you want to eye some of the planet’s fastest guys on bikes.

This weekend also wraps up Bike Week, presented by a cool .ORG that wants people on bikes…
In my opinion, the day to be there is Saturday… you and your family get to cruise the closed streets of Pasadena with thousands of other biker types, and you can check out the stage finish of the Tour of California. If you want to see the guys ride the hills and the folks that follow the tour around wearing banana suits and afro wigs, go Sunday.

FREE DANCE DOWNTOWN
If you like to dance, you’ll want to visit the every-other-Friday-night summertime Music Center Plaza party, but just make sure you’re doing it the right every other or you’ll just look silly dancing by yourself.
Lessons are free, if you need to learn how to shake it.
Night one is May 16. It’s the 100th Dance Downtown and the theme is the 1960s.

Fiddlin’ Around in Topanga at the Fiddle Fest
when: May 18 at 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The festival takes place at Paramount Ranch on three stages plus the dance barn and kid’s area, set within Western movie sets and mountain locations — bring your instruments and ”sit in“ with jamming musicians! At the children’s area there are crafts and kid’s bands (like The Hollow Trees, Scottish Fiddlers and Kiddo Clogging and Sea Shanty singing) as well as fiddle and banjo workshops. Kids also love watching the spinning and crafting demonstrations.
Bring a picnic or enjoy the BBQ and other food at the festival and spend the whole day. And don’t forget the sunscreen and water – it can get pretty hot out there!

The Daughters of the Purple Sage sing music of the American West as portrayed on Hollywood’s silver screens of the 1930s and 40s. Then Wylie Gustafson, a genuine cowboy, a Montana rancher and a world-class yodeler will take the stage with his band, The Wild West. (Yes, you’ll recognize him – his unmistakable “Ya-hoo-ooo!” yodel has been heard millions of times as the hallmark of the Yahoo! advertising campaign.)
Be sure to take advantage of the fun, free workshops where kids explore the featured culture through unique art-making projects such as calligraphy, puppets, musical instruments, accordion books, textile projects and more.

Icky, Creepy, Crawly: The Bug Fair

Join Digital Sheperds for an afternoon in a beautiful, historic location… The Original Farmers Market, Los Angeles at the Grove. It’s going to be an amazing day for dads and daughters and though it’s free for you, it will impart a lifetime of value for the relationship between you and your baby girl! The event will be held at the Famer’s Market Los Angeles at 3rd Street and Fairfax in the Community Room. The Tea Room will be open from 10:30AM-3:30PM.
