Regardless of of your political slant, go mingle with our Founding Fathers during the 23rd Annual President’s Day Celebration at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum on February 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. This celebration includes fun for the entire family, including crafts, musical entertainment, storytelling, and presidential and first lady look-a likes. Hot dogs, pie and other all-American food will be available for purchase.

So what if it’s actually the year of the sheep? Anyone with their eyes on the ocean know it’s been a great year for whale watching. Heal the Bay’s Santa Monica Pier Aquarium is hosting “Whale of a Weekend” to celebrate the annual migration of the Pacific gray whale. Last year whales were spotted off the West end of the Pier during this celebration; this year naturalists will be out there with binoculars and field guides to share and help little ones spot the whales.

Kids can feel the heft of a whale rib, check out bristly baleen and try on a layer of (simulated) whale blubber for warmth.  Then they can have their faces painted and make a whale visor to take home, too.
