Celebrate the Holidays at the Winter Family Festival
It is holiday time, and snow is in the air once again in Studio City, CA. The Studio City Residents Association’s Fifth Annual Winter Family Festival and Festival of Giving will be held at Studio City Recreation Center (aka “Beeman Park”) on Sunday, December 13, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Studio City Recreation Center is located at 12621 Rye Street, Studio City, CA 91604.
Last year, more than 5000 people got into the holiday spirit and gave back to the community as well at this popular free event, which is presented to the community by the Studio City Residents Association and Studio City Recreation Center. The event, the largest to-date, saw thousands playing in more than 70 tons of snow, with slides, snowball fights and snowman making.
Guests attending the event donated more than 500 pieces of clothing, more than 250 pounds of food, as well as many boxes of books, toys and pet items to the onsite Festival of Giving, which benefitted the North Hollywood Interfaith Food Pantry, St. Charles Service Center, the LAPD North Hollywood Division Gift and Food Drive, Pet Orphans, Aviva Family & Children’s Services and Iris Blossom Charities. Guests also enjoyed samples from local restaurants, craft-making, free photos with Santa, food trucks and many other activities.
Always a special treat, the event also includes A Taste of the Holidays featuring free samples from local restaurants. As of this writing, restaurant participants include Chin Chin, Gangadin, Lemonade, Local Ice, Mendocino Farms, Pizza Rev, The Village, Tuning Fork, Chantel & Bella and The Front Yard.
Guests who attend the festival will enjoy musical performances by Tom Kenny and the Hi-Seas (Kenny is the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants), Campbell Hall World Drumming Ensemble, CHAMPS Charter High School for the Arts Level 3/4 Choir, Carpenter Cougar Chorus, Schoolcraft & Murray, the Studio City Recreation Center’s Hip Hop Classes, Harvard Westlake’s A Capella Group and the Studio City Rec. Center’s Guitar Band. The Winter Family Festival stage will be hosted by David Burke, star of “Hey Wordy” from PBS Kids.
Parking for the Festival is free with a free shuttle at CBS Studio Center, 4024 Radford, Studio City, CA 91604. Marina Del Rey Boat Parade

This local boat parade is a holiday tradition. A fireworks display kicks off the evening, then the boats begin circling the main channel of the Marina at 5:55 p.m. You’ll see all kinds of boats- sailboats, yachts and charters decked out in holiday lights and decorations, blasting music and boasting very spirited sailors. Bring chairs or blankets and enjoy the show from Burton Chase Park. This year the theme is “Adventures on the Sea!”

With awe-inspiring features providing a brand-new spin on holiday lights in Griffith Park, L.A. ZOO LIGHTS sets the Zoo’s enchanting environment aglow with breathtaking displays, among them thousands upon thousands of LED lights, flurries of illuminated snowflakes, stunning 3-D animated projections and glittering light tunnels. A fanciful menagerie of animal characters include mischievous animated monkeys scampering through the grounds, a glowing 130-foot snake coiled on a roof, a hillside with snowboarding “lizards,” 3-D animated elephants wearing colorful holiday sweaters, an origami-type rhino lit from within and so much more.
Cost: Tickets for GLAZA members are $11 for adults/seniors and $10 for children ages 2 to 12 on Mondays through Thursdays (except on December 21, 22 and 23 when tickets are the same as weekend prices), and $14 for adults/seniors and $13 for children ages 2 to 12 on Fridays through Sundays. Children under age 2 are free. Purchase tickets online to attend during the first week (Nov 27 – Dec 3) for the online-only Early Bird Rate of $10 each.
