I’ve never done this before, I’ve never asked anyone for anything on the internet except to like, share, or click. That changes now!
We all have things that are important to us, for me one of those things is to do my part to give my kids and their friends at our public school a good education. Not just math and English, but a complete education that includes art, PE, media lab, and music to round it out, because that’s what the world needs… well rounded humans. Budget cuts the way they are, it’s become an imperative that parents and the community kick in to take up the slack.
I am one of the chairs of one of our big fundraisers here in Studio City at my daughter’s school. We wanted to do something that the community could get behind, that people would enjoy, and so last year the Carpenter Charity Golf Tournament was born.

Good, Bad, middle of the road golfers are all invited. It’s a scramble (best ball) and you can buy mulligans, so everyone scores well! Some better than others. Many better than me.
So on November 16th, is our 2nd Annual. For players, I do believe this could be the best time they have raising money for a school!

I’m sponsoring the event with my business, but I don’t go into that here on Studio City Dad (SCD). That’s just my way of saying that in addition to my time I am giving.
With only a short while to go before the event, I decided I wanted to do more. It occurred to me that while I can only make so many phone calls, knock on a few thousand doors, and send a gross ton of emails, it would be great to include the entire internet in helping the school, and I could use SCD as a facilitator. Because… the internet is full of nice people I thought. So, I’m crowd funding and I’m asking you for a dollar. Maybe all of you internet people will give this great school a dollar. Sure, you can donate more. But a buck helps. And if enough people donate a buck, it’s lots of bucks.

Feel Good & Do Good
Since people came to The Valley they’ve planted citrus. The trees just drink up that hot California Sun. I rented a home a bunch of years ago that had a navel orange tree chock full of the best oranges I’d ever had, but we couldn’t eat them or give them away as fast they were dropping and rotting. That is where Food Forward comes in, they collect food that would otherwise be wasted and put it in the hands of those in need. 
There is never a shortage of opportunities to volunteer, but sometimes we need one put right in front of us before we act. Here it is. So if you’re looking for a local way to help out and something you can do with the kids, look no further than Food Forward. To date they’ve recovered 1,889,000lbs of food. Don’t worry, they won’t ask you to carry it all by yourself.
You’ll want to click here to go to their site and choose what to sign up for, they have many projects available. If you’re going to bring the kids make sure the event you sign on to help with allows kids their age.
If your kid has a need to do a youth service project, Food Forward can be an interesting way for them to do so. No matter what brings you to help, it sends a great message to our kids to get out there, even if it’s just once in a while, to help those less fortunate.
