I’d been wanting to get over to LACMA (Los Angeles Count Museum of Art) for years, admission was $25 per family member unit and that seemed pretty steep for a family of four. I wasn’t sure what a couple of us would get out of it. I’m not saying which couple. So I never made it a priority until I found out it was going to be free over President’s Day Weekend.

I should note that when I got there it was Target I needed to thank for the visit. There’s a program called free holiday Mondays, which is self explanatory.

Visitors of all ages are invited to a free day at the museum, with bilingual tours, free programs, art-making activities, and live music by Mehrdad Arabi and Friends at 12:30 and 2:45 pm.

There is a mix of art, from photography and impressionism to negative space pieces and tribal art from the South Pacific.

I stumbled upon something there that many already knew about, it’s a program called Arts for NexGen LACMA.

Simply put, it lets kids under 18 into LACMA for free, along with an adult. Their goal is to introduce the arts to the next generation. See how they did that? Just sign up and you’re set, at least until they’re 18.

Arts for NexGen LACMA is supported by Andy & Carlo Brandon-Gordon and Goldman Sachs Gives, The Eisner Foundation, The Employees Community Fund of Boeing, and the Flora L. Thornton Foundation.

Security and docents are there to make sure you don’t do anything you’re not supposed to, but they give you room to play. Mine likes to run a bit and it wasn’t frowned upon, as long as you do it in the right places.

There is a lot to see and you probably will want to do it in smallish chunks, depending upon the age of your little one(s).

We broke up the day and grabbed lunch across the street at the long line of food trucks parked on Wilshire Blvd. They’re there every day.
