the Whaddup:

Disney’s Cinderella is a live action version of the classic tale. Lily James stars as Ella, renamed Cinderella by her cruel stepsisters and stepmother (Cate Blanchett). Despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella is determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to have courage and be kind. With a little help from a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter), she may yet find her happily ever after.

Frozen Fever

Only at the El Capitan: Olaf appears live on stage to introduce the short  “Frozen Fever”.  Other exclusives at the El Capitan include an immersive light and projection show accompanied by a live organist and a display featuring the Glass Slipper and other props used in the movie.

The film has a run time of 1 hr 45 minutes and is rated PG. Daily show times are 10am, 1pm, 4pm, and 7pm, with a 9:45pm screening on Fridays and Saturdays..

On select days, El Capitan guests can join Olaf for breakfast before the 10:30am show at the Disney Studio Store/ Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop,(adjacent to the theater). Seating is limited, advance reservations required, Adults: $41, kids: $38, VIP: $50, (includes tickets to 10am show.)

The Tiny Tot screenings are at 10am on the Tuesdays of the run

Parking rates at the Hollywood & Highland Center are $2 for up to four hours with validation from El Capitan Theatre.

Kite Party

Kites are flying on Huntington Beach!   The Kite Party is open to both the general public and experienced advanced kite flyers, from sunrise to sunset each day.

The general public may to watch and fly in areas outside of the main flying field, which is reserved for experienced, registered kite party participants only.

Professional demonstrations are performed at random times throughout the day. Sport kite lessons are held on the south side of the pier for a couple hours on Saturday and Sunday.

Highlights include presentations by Kidspace, Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots, and TreeMap LA, as well as music, crafts, hands-on activities, and storytelling. Visitors can see wild animals, pick-up a free pine seedling, participate in environmental challenges, and take part in a BioBlitz to discover more about the organisms at the Arboretum.

Get Your Hands on Art at the Adobe

On the second Saturday of every month at the Reyes Adobe Historical Site kiddos can participate in hands-on activities and make art projects.

Before your visit, have lunch in the park, enjoy the playground, or bring a soccer ball to kick around. Activities are geared towards children ages 3-8 and are free (with donations cheerfully accepted).

Docent-led tours of the historic adobe and museum are also available for all ages, if you feel a fact-finding mania come over you!

In what has become a popular annual tradition in Hermosa Beach, the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, hosted by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce, brings a touch of Ireland to Hermosa Beach each spring.

It’s a true small town parade by the beach, with school marching bands, bagpipers, floats, vintage autos, step dancers and Irish setters all taking part.

A parade, a walk on the beach, wearin’ of the green with the wee ones…What could be more fun?

The third Sunday in each month, Walt Disney’s Barn Museum, the original Santa Fe & Disneyland Combine Coach, and Ollie Johnston’s Victorian Train Depot, are open for public visiting.  Often, Disney veterans and Legends drop by for chats and autographs. The Carolwood Barn was Walt Disney’s own “thinking place” and was moved from his Bel Air home to Los Angeles Live Steamers Railroad.  It’s a (free!) little piece of Disney magic, right in the heart of LA.

Bob Baker’s “Something To Crow About”

The Bob Baker Marionette Theater has been declared an historic cultural monument by the city of Los Angeles, and performs in the nation’s oldest ongoing puppet theater.  So you have a culturally significant reason to go, as well as just having a blast.
