It’s pretty springy out there!
With all this nice weather, you’re thinking about what sort of weekend fun is available between the t-ball games and birthday parties… So let’s get to it, here is your official Studio City Dad Weekend-Whaddup!

The Muppets Take Over the El Capitan for “Muppets Most Wanted”

Whaddup:
Travel with the Muppets to Berlin, Madrid and London as they find themselves entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic “Number Two” Badguy. The kids will love it, you’ll adore it (seriously, if you can watch the trailer with Tina Fey, Ty Burrell and Ricky Gervais without snorting, you’ve had your funny bone removed!) and the El Capitan is the place to see it, because before every show they’ve got Miss Piggy & Kermit singing live on stage, as well as costumes and props from the movie and a “Most Sensational Muppet Workshop” after select 1:10 p.m. shows (call 818-845-3110 for details and tickets).

American Girl® Celebrates Native American Culture

Whaddup:
Kaya’s American Girl stories explore what it was like to grow up as a Nez Perce girl before America became a country. This special excursion helps girls understand even more about Native American culture and teaches them authentic arts and crafts. Join a basket-weaving workshop with Jacque Nunez of the Acjachemen Nation, make your own Kaya Parfleche Bag, and enjoy performances of Native American dancing. Complimentary parking at The Grove, free parking at the Autry.
This program is included with standard museum admission. However, if you really want to treat your kids, there’s a pre-program lunch, (at 11:00 am) at American Girl at The Grove. Tickets for the lunch, which includes admission to all afternoon activities at the Autry, are $36 each. Space is limited. Whaddup?
Bring the kids for an afternoon at the Rancho to see the ranch buildings and restored old carriages. You can take a hike (1.5 miles), or not, and then meet the rangers and volunteers who patrol the area on horseback. They’ll also be showing off for the kids in a horse riding demo in the ranch arena.

Sew Your Own Friend

Whaddup:
Kids can create their own soft creatures. They’ll learn a variety of lessons today as they first make a pattern from a drawing of their own, then cut out, decorate and finally hand-sew the creature. Kids will work with a variety of fabric, yarn, buttons and beads.

Descanso is spectacular this weekend, if you’re going to go-go now! Spring arrives in Japan on drifts of pink and white cherry blossoms. Descanso Gardens celebrates this season of promise and a longtime friendship with the Japanese community at the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

Koto Music Concset
A concert with June Kuramoto on the koto, the national instrument of Japan.

Bring your picnic blanket and spread out on the grass for an outdoor movie night on the beautiful baseball field. The show for the evening is, of course, the baseball classic: “The Sandlot.” You can bring your own food and drinks. Hot chocolate, chips, popcorn, candy and other snacks and drinks will be available for purchase.
Note: cancel in the event of rain, as this is an outdoor facility.

Calling All Little Truckers Who Love BIG Trucks

If your little wheeler likes big trucks, this is the event you can’t miss. Truck Adventures is a unique opportunity for kids to get up close and personal with over 50 trucks and other vehicles that they see every day on the road. Fire trucks, police cars, construction vehicles (in other words – all the tot favorites!) and many other vehicles will be on display for children to see, touch, explore, sit in the driver’s seat and talk to the people who drive these vehicles each and every day.
