Adults and older kids can go for a 100, 70, 50, 36, or 25-mile ride; the family ride (open to kids ages seven and up) is 15 miles long and stays on a dedicated bike path by the river. Participants should register in advance (by June 24 for the early registration price).
As part of the day’s festivities, the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition invites younger kids and their families for a fun fair.
The family bike expo features a variety of health and safety workshops designed to empower families who ride bikes.
The Kids Safety Ride is perfect for kids 3-8 years old who are still developing their biking skills. The ride introduces young children to important bike safety lessons through fun, interactive activities. Kids practice their riding techniques on a bike loop within the enclosed Autry Center parking lot. Bikes and trikes are welcome – (all riders must wear a helmet.)
Kids ages 5 to 10 can go on the 2 mile Kids Ride ride on an LA River Bike Path. Bikes and push bikes are welcome, (but please no tricycles).
Riders at all events must wear helmets. Proceeds from the event benefit the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy organization that is dedicated to making Los Angeles County a safer place to bicycle.
Note that families attending the Kids’ Ride are welcome to park in Griffith Park. All others must park outside the park, (1625 Flower St. in Glendale for rides originating at Griffith Park). Also, while participation for kids is free, registration is required.
