How about chowing down on some traditional foods straight from Italy (or Little Italy, in the case of the Gravy-Sauce competition)? For kiddos there is a kids’ corner, plus plenty of carnival rides and games, storytelling and B-I-N-G-O (and did we mention pizza and cannolli?). There are street performers, strolling musicians, Saturday’s San Gennaro Procession on Hollywood Boulevard. (And for parents there are also tastings from local wineries to accompany your gravy or sauce laden dishes…)

Ya know how the free stuff is cool? Well, this cool. This is an annual event hosted by Smithsonian magazine in which participating museums across the country open their doors to anyone presenting a Museum Day Ticket.
This is a great opportunity to check out one of the (literally) hundreds of amazing museums the greater Los Angeles area has to offer. Participating museums include the Zimmer Children’s Museum, California Science Center, The Museum of the Holocaust, The Chinese American Museum, JANM, Autry, The Craft and Folk Art Museum, The Grammy Museum and many others.

For its third edition, the car-centric Jalopnik Film Festival comes to L.A. this weekend. Things kick off on Adam Carolla’s new documentary – Winning: The Racing Life of Paul Newman. It’s followed by a Q&A with Carolla and an after-party. The screenings then move to The Theatre at Ace Hotel in DTLA with films including Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt’s Havana Motor Club; the documentary Steve McQueen: The Man and Le Mans; and Being Evel, a documentary about daredevil Evel Knievel.
The opening screening and party is free with RSVP (buy the $75 VIP tickets for food/drink tickets for the party). The Saturday screening ticket is $25 and includes all films and panels.
