Come run the trails for a great cause! The 7th Annual Rose Run sponsored by A Runner’s Circle Los Angeles will kick off Breast Cancer awareness month on Sunday, October 4th. Proceeds from this event will support the Thrivorship program at The Disney Family Cancer Center at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank. This program is structured to help cancer patients thrive after treatments with guidance, nutrition information, therapy and so much more.
Race director Jessica Cribbs started The Rose Run in 2009 after losing her mother to breast cancer at the age of 54. Rose was an amazing, inspirational, hard working woman. Her family is using those traits to help make a difference for cancer patients where they are donating to research and patient care such as through the Thrivorship program.
You can participate in the 5k run/walk or sign your kids up for the 1k fun run!
Race Day Registration opens 6:45am
5k Run/Walk 7:30 am
Kids’ 1k Fun Run 8:40am/Awards 9am
Wellness Fair 7am-10am
This race will be chip timed and is a trail run.
Fruit/Water will be provided
There is ample parking in the park by the baseball field and by the carousel

Friday Night Jazz at LACMA

It would be hard to find a nicer spot in the city to grab a blanket and have a picnic with friends.. and listen to the jazz… Every Friday from April 18th through the end of October, you can hear a free jazz concert at LACMA in the grand entrance.
Bring the kids early and grab seats and let them run around Hancock Park, rolling down the hills and exploring the tar pits before the concert starts. The museum is free to all Los Angeles County residents after 5 p.m. on Fridays (Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays too!), so be sure to check out the latest exhibits.

Remo Drum Kids Rhythm Club

Unless you look very hard or listen real close, you may not have seen this cool happening in LA… did you know that there’s a HUGE drum warehouse, up in North Hollywood, that houses hundreds of drums from tiny finger tappers to gigantic standing drums? Kids can go bang a gong and beat a drum, mix it and shake it to the beat every Saturday. Join the fun! Kids have a chance to lead the drum circle, and they offer an “open mic” section where kids are invited to come up and sing a song while everyone drums along.

Animalia the Getty Family Festival

Explore your animal nature at this daylong family festival celebrating the exhibition In Focus: Animalia. Transform yourself with whiskers and spots via face painting and then build a headdress based on your favorite creature. Embrace your wild side through storytelling, games, and workshops at this free, interactive event.

Go Back in Time With Reyes Adobe Days

Adobe Days, kids can experience adobe life through traditional hands on activities such as tortilla grinding, soap making, old fashioned laundry, and so much more. They can also observe a blacksmith making horseshoes (and other cool items) or join a musical drum circle. There’s a new General Store too, where kids can stock up on new and vintage goodies. Plus, kids can ride the Reyes Adobe Days train around the park, play with the exotic animals at the petting zoo, or perhaps ride a pony. The whole family can tour the adobe, watch the parade, get some great grub and take in a concert, too.

Salt & Straw, the Portland-based, family-run artisanal ice cream purveyor (with an outpost on Larchmont), launches its “Spooktacular” Halloween Series on Friday. The five new flavors include Creepy Crawly Critters, a “light and fresh green-grass ice cream that hides swarms of real grasshoppers, ants and other insects, trapped in fragments of hard candy amber.” Or Essence of Ghost: “A thrillingly light and chillingly cold flavor that will make you think you’ve just tasted an apparition. Frigid sherbet quickly gives way to lingering smokiness, while notes of bitterness keep your taste buds guessing as to what they just experienced.” The flavors will be available through the end of the month.
