The Manhattan Beach Open

The 55th Manhattan Beach Open marks the longest running, continuous tournament in the sport of beach volleyball. The AVP returns to the mecca of beach volleyball as the most talented men and women in the sport battle it out to have their names enshrined on the well regarded Manhattan Beach Pier. The event will feature the Manhattan Beach Open Walk of Fame Pier Ceremony, 12+ ancillary courts, the Manhattan Beach Open Legends match, interactive games, athlete signings and more.

Rocket Fever is spreading at the Columbia Memorial Space Center and you whole family can get in on the action. A day full of rockets where you can learn how they work, what they’re used for, how to make your own, and even get a chance to launch one. There will be activities for all ages for kids, and adults, too. There will be an additional fee for the rocket building class.

Spend time with a modern prestidigitator, Derek Hughes, for a magical kid-centric matinée. It starts with illusions that will impress the young and young at heart. Then kids get magic trick instruction to ignite their own careers in sorcery. And every kiddo will take a magic trick home with them along with the power to amaze their friends and family. After the show, refreshments of lemonade, strawberry smoothies, cookies, and fruit will be provided as guests can meet and greet with the magician.

Robots take over the Aquarium at the annual Robotics Day! Watch demonstrations from local high school robotics clubs and learn about land and underwater ROVs (Remotely Operated Vehicles). Kids even get the chance to drive an underwater ROV through an obstacle course and discover how scientists use ROVs to explore the ocean.

What does every child love? Making a mess! And this is the place to do it with impunity. Kids (and grownups) can squish a little history between their toes at this delightfully muddy festival where you’re not supposed to stay clean. Mud-tastic activities include adobe brick-making, mud relay races, clay sculpting, archaeology adventures and more. De-mudding station available; bring old shoes (required), a change of clothes and a towel.
Kids 3 and under are free.
