If you’re like us, you’ve considered taking the train South from LA but the price isn’t attractive when you’re lugging kids along with your bags, down the rails, compared to the price of gas. But for the month of October, you won’t have that argument to hold you back. This is the time to get all of them aboard Amtrak’s Pacific Surfliner, since kiddos can ride for free with each adult rail fare to Oceanside, Old Town San Diego, and the Downtown San Diego Station.

You can travel from the Los Angeles, Ventura, and Orange County areas.  So hop on Pacific Surfliner where kids are free for travel October 1-31, 2014, a three (3) day advance reservation is required.

Not only that, but the whole of San Diego has gotten a little cheaper next month. The San Diego Zoo and Safari Park are offering free admission for the little ones in your life, along with the USS Midway, the Birch Aquarium, and more for the month of October.  You’ll wish you had more time off to do all the cool stuff down there.
