It’s going to be HOT! Leave the valley, just go. The beach, the central coast will be lovely, anywhere but here. I bet the SF Valley board of tourism would love my saying that (is there one of those?). But if you stick around, here’s a handful of cool stuff to check out!
Autry Explorers LEGO® Day at the Autry:
Cars Meets Route 66
Date / Time:
Sunday, September 14, 2014, 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
The Autry in Griffith Park
Free for Autry Members / Included With Museum Admission
In celebration of the exhibition Route 66: The Road and the Romance, the Autry invites LEGO lovers to come build creative vehicles to travel the Mother Road—or to race on a Pinewood Derby–style track. Before or after trying your hand at building with LEGO, take a family-friendly tour of Route 66, enjoy a scavenger hunt for all modes of transportation hiding in the Autry galleries, or catch (on the big screen) a showing of Cars, the award-winning Pixar film that honors the iconic highway. Appropriate for ages 3–12. Presented in partnership with LUGO-LA (LEGO Users Group of Los Angeles).
Although advance reservations are not necessary for the Lego activities, advance reservations for the screenings of Cars are recommended. The first screening of Cars begins at 11:00 a.m. The second screening of Cars begins at 1:30 p.m. with an introduction by Jeffrey Richardson, the Autry’s Gamble Curator of Western History, Popular Culture, and Firearms and Route 66 curator. The movie starts at 2:00 p.m.
11:00 a.m. Screening (Tickets include admission to the museum and other Lego Day activities)

where: El Pueblo de Los Angeles, 200 N. Main St., Los Angeles
ages: All Ages
We’ve been taught to believe Mexico’s Independence Day is May 5th? This is a lie! But I don’t know why they’ve lied to us, but that doesn’t really figure into this anyway. It’s September 16th, and every year this holiday is celebrated at El Pueblo Historical Monument. This weekend you can go and celebrate with live music, dancing, and entertainment, carnival rides, food and much more.
