You’ll want the usual, blankets, a chinchilla or honey badger to cuddle up with (your preference), chairs and some munchables while you lounge on the grass and listen to the jaz. This is every Friday from April 18th through the end of October.
Go early to snag great seats and let them run around at Hancock Park, rolling down the hill and exploring the tar pits before the concert starts. Check them for tar before you let them back in the car, especially if you have cloth seats. And remember that the museum is free to all Los Angeles County residents after 5 p.m. on Fridays (Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays too!)

Normally a wine tasting doesn’t sound like a very kid-friendly event. But this isn’t your normal wine tasting. Unwind and enjoy the beautiful Barnsdall Art Park as the sun sets from the gated gardens of the historic Hollyhock House. Silverlake Wine presents four selections of boutique, small production, artisanal wines from around the globe. Folks bring blankets and picnics (or grabs treats from a selection of changing food trucks, which usually includes kid favorites like Let’s Be Frank and Cool Haus), there is a DJ, arts and crafts for kids, and a general community party atmosphere. Kids are welcome, and the $5 entrance fee for kids gets them a juice box tasting and the chance to do some fun crafts.
All profits from the wine tastings benefit Barnsdall Art Park Foundation programs and projects, such as Free Sunday Art Classes for children and families in the community, as well as capital projects like the Monument Sign.
Tickets for adults are $30 (including a limited edition wine glass) and are available online only. Due to security and occupancy requirements, children over the age of 3 (and adults who attend but do not partake in the wine tasting) require tickets to attend.

It’s not too hard to find a train for little engineers to ride in L.A. (heck, there are 3 other trains in Griffith Park alone!), but none of the others are ones you get to straddle, Donald Duck style, to take your turn around the track. Kids love it (but be forewarned, you have to be 34″ to ride).
It’s tons of fun for all train enthusiasts in the family, from the littlest Thomas fan to grandpa! Be sure to make a day of it by visiting Travel Town right next door, for a whole afternoon of trains.

CicLAvia sets to wheels through Pasadena. The route follows mostly along Colorado Blvd., with forays onto Lake and Raymond.
Event hubs are at Memorial Park, Old Pasadena, South Lake Avenue District, and the start at Colorado and Bonnie. The website has more details about events at each hub. .
CicLAvia is derived from a Spanish term for “bike path,” and its goal is to turn LA into one big bike path, if just for a few hours. People are encouraged to leave their cars at home and bike, walk, skateboard, or push a stroller to discover our beautiful city at non-motorized speeds. CicLAvia offers a wide variety of activities for people of all interests and ages, including music, performances, food trucks galore, and more.
